Almost every job that you can find will require you to have some level of team skills.
There is social interaction in the workplace and you may have to work with others at times, which is why having the skills is important.
When an employer asks “Are you a team player?”, you should be able to answer with a resounding “yes” and an explanation of how you can work with a team.
There are some employees that do tend to work better on their own.
There is nothing wrong with that but it is something that needs to be considered before applying for any position. If you do not work well with others, you should not be applying for a position that requires that skill.

I can help delegate tasks, compromise, and fulfill any role on the team that is needed. I am flexible in working independently or on a team, as needed by the task at hand.
These responses will show that you can be a team player, but that you aren’t going to need someone to hold your hand 24 hours a day. Employers want independent employees who can take care of themselves, but who aren’t so independent that they cannot work with others.
If you showcase your skills and abilities in this type of fashion, you will generally get a much better response.
It’s really all about finding the right words to give them everything that they ask for. If you take the time to prepare beforehand, you can generally come up with a great response to “Are you a team player?” and be ready to impress them with your answer.
You can also use experience from previous positions to provide evidence of your ability to work independently or on a team. This will help ensure that you really are capable and that you aren’t just telling them what they want to hear. At the end of the day, it’s all about being prepared.
